Luckily, where we live, we don't have any rules about dogs in apartments. Every other person has a pup here, so if they started to make rules about dogs in apartments, it would throw the city into chaos. On the other hand, we do get why landlords would want some sort of protection in place. We know this because we know how many untrained and destructive doggos there are - we encounter at least one every single walk. Don't even get us started on proper dog training; that's a whole other article.

But just because there aren't any rules doesn't make it excusable for a landlord to suddenly slap an eviction notice on your door, especially after you've lived in a dog-friendly apartment for two years. That's what's happening to the pawrent below, and they're on a time crunch to figure out what to do after being told that they have less than 30 days to either move out or rimove their doggo.

Well, obviously removing the doggo is not an option - that's their fur child! The helpful canine community came forward to help them handle this doggo disaster, stating that it's probably something shady on the landlord's end. They sound like a real Karen! Or Kevin, we're not sure if they're a man or woman, but either way, they're definitely giving off Karen/Kevin energy. Time to get out the magnifying glass and read the fine print of that lease!

    IminLoveWithMyCar3 13h ago If your lease says you were allowed pets then you are allowed pets. They can't just add that after the fact and expect you to do it. Time to read your lease again and talk to a lawyer. Even if it doesn't say you can, talk to the lawyer about grandfatherinf.

    I'm kind of wondering if another tenant is asking to have a pet and the LL said no but then the tenant said it's not fair that you get one and they can't. Seems more plausible to me. Either way, the LL sounds like an a hole. I'm sorry

  • Oh, wow. We didn't even think of this, but now it makes sense. If that is true, that's really shady on the landlord's end. In fact, that might even be illegal? We're not sure of the legal ins and outs of this kind of thing, but at the very least, it's morally wrong. Too bad there isn't a morality police. We would happily volunteer to be the captain of said force!

    say anything about animals? As long as you keep paying and they keep cashing the check you should be okay. At least for a little while. They have to follow laws. They cannot just ask you to move or get rid of your dog.

  • Always get everything in writing. Everything. You never know what will happen in the future, and something someone said isn't enough nowadays to use as a defense in case something like this happens. We learned this from our dad, and it might be one of the most useful things we've kept with us since.

    Although it will depend on what your contract says. Most places include a daily fee for any animal not listed on the lease and some kind of pet deposit or pet fee paid. Again, you'll have to check the contract. It also depends where

    3. What breed is your dog? Some landlords have to require that specific breeds. are not had as pets because of insurance reasons. There are a ton of variables.

    Calgary_Calico 14h ago What does your lease say? Was your dog included? Do you pay pet rent? If your dog is in the lease your landlord can't just kick you or him out without writing up a new lease, he's part of the agreement. Talk to your neighbors

    and get statements, recorded if possible, so you have evidence the landlord is lying. The landlord has to prove you've been causing trouble, they can't. I'd also take this to the tendency board. File a complaint against them for making false claims to evict

    points if they provide other verbiage, example- that you have been a nice neighbor and your dog has never been a issue. This will help your case. Since the landlord isn't providing proof. Especially since your dog appears to be quiet and good dog.

    TomatoFeta 11h ago . Buy your landlord a package of sausages and tell him to take you to whatever organization handles landlord tenant issues in your area. If the neighbors have complaints, considering you've been there with the dog for two years already, and this is the first you're hearing about issues, the landlord is going to need those sausages to help him get over his loss.

    In short, you probably can NOT be evicted for having a dog. Especially at this stage. You need the answers to these questions to know for certain.
